Welcome

You're here, looking for a therapist licensed in Oregon, Washington or New Jersey to help you with challenging feelings and situations. There's so many therapists that can help alleviate anxiety, depression, self-esteem and relationship issues. How do you choose? How do you choose when you're already feeling overwhelmed by life?

We offer you what we would want: experience, education, convenience, and connection

You're likely wondering, can this therapist help me? Do clients see results? Collectively, Rochelle, Evan, and Kerry have been in the mental health field for 30 years! We've seen about a thousand folks ages six and older experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, trauma (familial, religious, abuse, etc.), relationship and communication challenges, and addictions including screens. At Awaken Counseling, our approach is warm, kind, friendly, and humorous when appropriate. We set goals together and help keep you accountable. We offer weekly practice (homework) so that you see progress as fast as possible, and to really integrate the information daily. If wanted, we kindly bring up potential blindspots, other areas for us to work on, in a non-judgmental way. We offer a 20/30-minute complimentary consultation so you can learn what to expect, and we can learn more of how we can assist you so that you can begin the process of healing. Don't waste your limited time here on planet Earth - you deserve healing and relief NOW.

Another thing that is important when looking for a therapist is education. Evan and Rochelle both have Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and  Master of Counseling degrees. Kerry has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, a Master of Fine Arts in writing, and a Master of Science in Counselor Education and Clinical Rehabiliation. We are all Nationally Certified Counselors.

Convenience. Do you really want to travel across town, in traffic, find and/or pay for parking, to go sit in a strangers space and tell them your private information? That doesn't sound appealing! We see clients via confidential video sessions . That sounds so weird, and impersonal right? Before you dismiss it, let us share why clients like it, and why therapy is moving in this direction. The most exciting reason to offer teletherapy is because we, and many other colleagues, have noticed PEOPLE IMPROVE FASTER . That means less time and money output, and more living your best life ! One theory as to why this happens is because of the disinhibition effect. This means that because things feel a touch more anonymous, you're likely to open up more, and quicker. For more information, see this link . Another theory is that because you're in the comfort of your own home rather than a stranger's territory, you feel more comfortable. Lastly, perhaps because there is less compartmentalizing (the session information can't just stay "in my therapists office") there is more conscious and subconscious work happening as you are reminded of session information when you pass through your own space. But wait, what if I don't have my own space?! You can have sessions in your car, in an office, in a library room, or ask your roommates for 50 MINUTES A WEEK to have the house to yourself.

Other reasons to offer teletherapy are because it saves you time and money - less time spent commuting, in traffic, paying for gas/parking, etc. and therefore reducing both of our carbon footprints. Additionally, we can serve folks with mobility/transportation issues, those with busy lives, those living rurally, and folks with kids (again, less money for babysitters and less time strategizing schedules). This is what we want for you - quick, effective, meaningful healing so that you can be the best version of yourself, the person you've always wanted to be.
